Australian Alps

On a continent characterized by an arid climate and flat terrain, the majestic snow-capped Australian Alps cannot be overlooked. This mountain range stretches across New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, and Victoria.

The alpine zone is home to 16 national parks and reserves. The highest peak in the Australian Alps is Mount Kosciuszko, reaching an elevation of 2,230 meters. It is on its slopes that Australia's best ski resorts are located - Perisher and Thredbo. The Australian ski season runs from June to October, while in spring and summer, the Australian Alps attract lovers of horseback riding, hiking, cycling, fishing, and hunting. Incidentally, the best place for fishing is Lake Jindabyne.

Summer is the perfect time for walks through snow-white chamomile fields, alpine buttercup carpets, and scatterings of mountain flowers. Don't miss the autumn foliage in Tumut! Here, in the Yarrangobilly Caves, you can enjoy the breathtaking sight of giant stalactites and thermal springs. A drive along the Great Alpine Road will open up breathtaking mountain scenery, and for hiking enthusiasts, we recommend the "Australian Alps" route.
