Brisbane, the administrative center of the state of Queensland, holds the top spot in Australia and the second place globally for the fastest population growth. Situated on the eastern coast of the continent, where the namesake river curves, this city earned the title of 'multinational' in the early 21st century: 21% of Brisbane's population consists of foreigners, including a significant number of our compatriots.
The river divides the city into two parts: the Central Business District and the South Bank. The South Bank is home to numerous recreational areas, such as the opulent Botanical Garden, opera house, ballet, conservatory, theaters, art galleries, and museums. Among the latter, the Queensland Museum, which houses the skeleton of the Queensland dinosaur, is especially noteworthy. While strolling through the city, pay attention to the historic buildings of the Customs House, Treasury Building, Brisbane City Hall, Commissariat Store, and the Old Mill.
Not far from the city center lies the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Here, you can encounter koalas, possums, kangaroos, wombats, emus, and lyrebirds. The Brisbane River flows into Moreton Bay - a cozy spot for beach vacations, water sports, and entertainment. One of the local authentic amusements is riding special sleds down enormous, pristine sand dunes.
