Broome is a town renowned for its pristine white beaches, breathtaking sunsets, and consistently hot, sunny weather, making it one of the country's most popular holiday destinations. The town’s history and economy are deeply intertwined with pearl diving. Broome was once Australia's primary pearl-producing center. Even today, you can purchase stunning pearl jewelry and listen to tales of pearl divers and the maritime dangers they faced. A somber testament to those times when pearls were valued more than human life is Broome’s Japanese Cemetery, where 900 Asian pearl divers are buried. Today, pearl oysters are cultivated on special farms, one of which you can visit while exploring Broome.
Just 6 kilometers from Broome, you can see the fossilized footprints of a dinosaur that walked the Earth 130 million years ago at Gantheaume Point. The footprints are clearly visible on the reef at low tide. Additionally, you can view plaster casts of these footprints at the top of the cliff. Another natural wonder you shouldn't miss is the "Staircase to the Moon," a magnificent silver illusion created by the reflection of the rising full moon on the tidal flats of Roebuck Bay. In Broome, this phenomenon, which can be observed for three nights a month between March and October, is accompanied by live music on Town Beach.
Cable Beach is the perfect place to relax, where the bright sun sets over the Indian Ocean. This beach is considered one of the best in the world due to its 22-kilometer length, white sand, clear turquoise waters, and magnificent sunsets. This romantic spot acquired its practical name from the telegraph cable laid between Broome and Java in 1889.
