Clay Cliffs

Updated: Jun 13

The Clay Cliffs are a fragile masterpiece of New Zealand nature located on the Twizel - Omarama highway in the South Island. Sharp but crumbling rock peaks were formed as a result of the glacier's movement several million years ago. Now they are on private land and you need to deposit $5 NZD in the “honesty box” to enter the carpark. A gravel road 10 km long leads from Highway No. 8 to the rocks. We recommend visiting this natural attraction only in sunny weather.
