The Great Ocean Road is one of the most scenic routes in the world and the most impressive road in Australia. It stretches for 243 km along the south-eastern coast of Australia and is the largest war memorial built to commemorate the end of World War I. The road was constructed from 1919 to 1932 by soldiers who returned from the front.
The Great Ocean Road offers postcard-perfect views of the coastline, including the Twelve Apostles. Like giant sentinels standing knee-deep in the water, they guard the entrance to Port Campbell, whose coast is known as the Shipwreck Coast. While traveling along the Great Ocean Road, don't forget to stop at Apollo Bay and take a stroll along the beautiful beaches where surfing competitions are held.
