Kings Canyon

Kings Canyon is located 323 km southwest of Alice Springs in Watarrka National Park. The canyon's sheer walls rise up to 300 meters, protecting the bottom of the gorge, where the Kings Creek flows, from the scorching sun. The creek gives life to lush palm groves, so unexpected and therefore especially pleasant in the desert surrounding the canyon. Enjoy this wonderful oasis, an amazing gift from centuries past, and swim in the tropical pools of the Garden of Eden. Visit the weathered domes of the Lost City. Admire the sunset at Carmichael Crag, stroll through Kathleen Springs to a wonderful spring, or take a night hike along the Giles Track. If spending the night in a tent is not to your liking, you can stay in a hotel or a holiday home surrounded by nature.

While in Kings Canyon, remember that this is a sacred Aboriginal site, so it is not recommended to stray from the hiking trails. Also, keep safety in mind: it's best to hike in the morning, avoiding the scorching midday sun. In any case, be sure to bring enough water, sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen.

Tours to Kings Canyon start in Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Alice Springs.

We recommend visiting Kings Canyon during the cooler months (from May to October) when daytime temperatures do not rise above +25 °C.
