Kuranda is a highland Aboriginal village that, in the 1960s, became a pilgrimage site and a settlement for hippies. Today, it is a popular tourist destination that offers visitors the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture, hear their songs, legends, and stories, witness ancient dances, and participate in sacred rituals.
In the village, you can purchase indigenous artifacts and remedies. A two- or three-day bushwalk with an Aboriginal guide is an unforgettable adventure. Kuranda can be reached from Cairns by car or bus, but a more scenic journey can be taken on the historic railway line or in a gondola on the world's longest cable car through the rainforest.
The village offers all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Many of Kuranda's historic buildings have been converted into restaurants, cafes, and hotels.
