Moeraki Boulders

Updated: Jun 17

Moeraki Beach with its mysterious boulders is an hour's drive north of Dunedin. These enormous round rocks were once bubbles of dirt in a hot mudflow that formed into large balls. Their surfaces cooled down and hardened faster than their cores and therefore many of them cracked and some even completely collapsed. Some boulders have been washed by the cold ocean for many millennia and others are still stuck in the side of the hill alongside. The boulders of Moeraki Beach is a great place for photoshoots. Do not miss the opportunity to fit yourself into this unearthly landscape!
