Wooroonooran National Park is located within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The Palmerston section of the park is a prime example of a rainforest ecosystem with the greatest diversity of flora and fauna.
More than 500 species of tropical trees grow here, and rare endemic species of animals and birds, such as the spotted-tailed quoll and the chowchilla, make their home. The Wari and Dulgubara Aboriginal peoples have inhabited this land for millennia.
Christie Palmerston was the first European to explore the area that would become the national park, and a section is named in his honor. Wooroonooran offers visitors an extensive network of hiking trails, well-equipped rest areas, and comfortable campsites.
